[ music | Franz Ferdinand -- "Take me Out" ]

Hello all

Did substantially bad on the calculus test, preparing for the retake tomorrow.

Looking for my cell phone...

Now I'm back. Haven't found it. Gave a biology presentation today for my TA class. None of them fell asleep, I suppose that's an accomplishment. I don't know if Goldberg liked it all too much, though. We'll see. If he didn't like it, I'll call my pal Chuck Norris, to give G-Money a roundhouse kick to the face. word.

More homework now, with Barnum opening tomorrow. I think its not as bad as people make it out to be. Its just what other people (myself included) have said - it lacks the maturity and themes of Fiddler, West Side, or Ragtime, but lets accept it for what it is: a plotless, circus-y musical that is giving underclassmen the experience of a full-company show. It has some alright numbers. He's clearly building for the future, there aren't a whole lot of seniors in the cast. Unlike the pit. How are we even going to do Senior gifts this year? There are more seniors than non-seniors.

So yeah, come see it this weekned. Stay for the exit music. It's like my favorite part. Today during vingettes, Mr. Moss was like "yo. Dave. Chris. Come play a gig for me" and dave and chris said "k. give us food." word.

Its Barnum this and next weekend, All-State the next weekend (the lead trumpet it music is kind of like a rapper... really high and hard at all times... it'll take some practicing), and then its MICCA for band. Then its time to "kick it old school" as they say. Academic Bowl tournament this weekend as well. Right now we have five people going. But everyone will bring their stuff tomorrow, so I'm not too concerned.

Peace, love, understanding

[ music | "Colors of my life" -- FUNK'D VSN. ]

Just finished writing the exit music for "Barnum"... okay... attempt at a description:

a septet: Trumpet, Alto Sax, Bari Sax, Rhodes Keyboard, Bass 1, Bass 2, and Drums.

I know, very Spinal Tap: "On lead bass... on rhythm bass... on Bari sax... on bass keyboard..." you get the picture.

I took the melody from "Colors of my Life" and tried to give it a Herbie Hancock/Sly and the family stone kind of funk feel. I streamlined the chords a bit so we can jam on it easier, and made two anti-parallel (stepwise, if you will) baselines... we'll see how that part of it goes.

Its way trippy. Word. Last year when I wrote the exit music to West Side Story I remember being like "okay, I'll write one real one, and I'll screw around with the other one". Thus was born the 4/4 Maria and "Maria Revisited" (a frantic version in 5/4). This time the music just the way it is is kind of lame, so I had to really make the new thing wacked out. But hell, its better than my other ideas: a klezmer/polka version of "Sucker", a Bossa Nova of "Style" in 7/4, or a ska version of "Come Follow the Band". So the funk version of "Colors of my life" is much better than any of those I suppose.

KETIH: Bring your bass monday. I'm thinking you and Dawson on bass, with Eldridge covering the Piano part, Chris on Bari, Owen on alto, and me on tpt.

Other than that, I've had a pretty lazy day. Worked on my Senior Project, writing this "Barnum" thing, Third Wing stuff, and took the dogs for a walk. Got more mail from Notre Dame. In fact, I've gotten 4 pieces of mail in the past week.

Nice. Peace.

Webshots pictures are up.

Read Nikki's journal for the full update. In brief: Guys/Girls of pit ate lots of ice cream... yeah, Keith, Kirill, Dave, Chris, Chris Lorch ate lots of ice cream. And we (err... to a certain point) liked it.

Check out the pictures at http://community.webshots.com/user/dfcondon.

IM me (trumpetstar2k6 or my other screen name if you have it) for videos.

NIKKI: Hi, um... can we have three vermonsters?
WOMAN: *smiles awkwardly, chuckles* Umm yeah, what kinds of ice cream do you want?
NIKKI: Uh... guys? Oh forget it, just surprise us.

Much love to the pit, cast, crew... we're almost there. The show opens six days from today.

party tonight? anyone out there?

More personal entry to come later, once I collect my thoughts and expell the ice cream from my system.

Battle of the Bands was sick

http://community.webshots.com/user/dfcondon <-- New Picts from BoB

Jimmy (and the stinkbombs) and Jared (and the Freshman and the Sexual Chocolate and the Carlislians) both played well - Jared and the Freshman won, so we're going to go out and celebrate next weekend with our winnings ($300 doesn't go that far when you split it ten ways - but the experience was worth more than any money can pay). Uncle Babushka played very well. As did the retrogrades, Make your own... everyone played pretty well. Didn't overly enjoy Dan Gerber, both Jared/Freshman and Jimmy/Stinkbombs could have probably used that time more effectively than having Dan talk about Warcraft. Went to Lizzay's afterwards and played poker/chatted. And I got to come home after midnight, because I turned 18 at 12:00 AM, February 5th 2006.

Its my birthday! Cigarettes and Porn and Lottery Tickets!!!

You know its your birthday when you come down the stairs and hear "Happy Birthday! I made you steak for brekfast!" Score.

Laura is coming home to eat cake with me, then she goes back to HC and I'm going out for the Super Bowl. I picked the Steelers, but I'm cheering for Lofa. Not the Seahawks, just Lofa Tatupu. How can you cheer against that name?

Check out the picts, and I'll see y'all tomorrow!

My gallant return [02 Feb 2006|10:27pm]
[ mood | Back to School! ]
[ music | "Sing, Sang, Sung" -- Phat Jazz Band ]

Garr

Just finished Danny's and Chris' bios. Rather amusing, if I do say so myself. Somewhere between a rainbow of skittles and a golden phoenix, Chris' creation happens.

Barnum rehersal was fair. We played music. I laughed. Chris laughed. Dr. Butts? The Law Offices of Butts and Wang? Some things will never stop being funny. Ever.

All State music is awesome. I got first part. Somewhat reluctant, because I know that the kid who played first last year is a lot better at playing lead than I am - he hit double As, whereas I can hit usually a double F (or so). Meh. We'll see. We're playing a swing, a ballad, a latin (Mintzer!), and another swing called "Sing, Sang, Sung" thats a sweeeeeeeet takeoff of "Sing, Sing, Sing" (The Chips ahoy song). Sounds sick on the CD. The music is balls-out, bent-over, turn-head-and-cough hard.

Aright, time to go learn some statistics.

Tom Brady is having surgery. And Abe Lincoln had a really small house. yeah.

I've decided to write a suite for Jazz Band and Orchestra - maybe to be performed here, maybe not. I'm thinking about basing the movements on colors, and designing contrasting styles that all sort of piece together. I know I'll experiment with time signitures and stuff, and I'll try exploring some other styles as well.

Word. I need a journal. Maybe I'll just use some random disk and be like "gnarf. journal. gnarf."

Punxsatawney Phill can go to hell.

peace, love, understanding

[ music | "Out Loud" -- Dispatch ]

Thanksgiving was sweet. I have the best friends/family in the world.

The Pep Band game was pretty beast. Its too bad it was our last one, but we surely went out on a high note (non pun intended. damn, writing that was mad awk...). But yeah, then came back and hung out with the fam. We ate. So. Much. Food. Ask me on Monday. Guess how much are turkey weighed?

THIRTY motherfuckin' POUNDS!!!!!!!!!

It was like, four turkeys in one. And of course it was my grandma here, so she made manicotti, every kind of potato imaginable, like a billion salads, a ham, a (see above) turkey... the list goes on.

I think I'll be eating leftovers for the next hundred years.

Then watched football with my father and uncles. Great time. Then there was ... wait... a DOUBLE EPISODE of The Apprentice - in which Adam got fired. Thank God. my pick (randal) is still alive. w00t. The tryptophan made me fall asleep somewhat early.

Woke up at quarter to seven this morning by crying babies. Though I was too young for that :-)

Went shopping today, because thats what you're supposed to do. Bought Things Fall Apart. Its excellent so far.

Going out in a few.

I'm sorry, Sophie. My deepest sympathies. I'd say that I understood, but I don't think thats possible right now. I wish only the best for your family.

Peace, Love, Understanding

[ mood | Studying, preparing to fail ]
[ music | Hey Ya - Cal/Berkley Pep Band ]

Chillin'

Didn't do so hot on physics, or calc last week for that matter. Studying up for part two of physics tomorrow, and calculus retake after school that same day.

Talkin' to my sister. she's nice. Can't say I miss her, because I see her like every weekend. But I dunno, she's funny. whatever.

First semester senior year is awful. I have so much work. and Notre Dame requires my first quarter report, I think. I have to pull some good grades, or else I'll flip if they defer me... that'd be upsetting.

I echo some of the sentiment of Chris. BC Calc is the hardest class. ever. If I didn't enjoy it so much, I'd probably drop it. I really feel like its worth it though. While the material goes so fast, I learn so much so fast. Unfortunately not as much as I need to learn, but still very much, very fast. And Atlas is a sick teacher.

Other classes are going well though. InterIssues is the bomb, and pretty easy, though full of effort. English too... why did I even bother trying to get into Euro lit? I'm going to end up reading several of the books on my own (ie C&P), and Contemp Lit is one of the easiest A's I've ever gotten. Seriously. Stats is aright, though....

Patton.

'nuff said on that. Jazz Band has been better than expected of late, we have a pretty good program laid out for the December show. Band is another story, though. I just don't know whats up... there are some sections that I think need to get a little more serious with the concert coming up --> but all Mr. D seems to want to do is to complain to everyone about my articulation. Umm... no comment. Almost done with Mr. D's revisions to my "Hey Ya" arrangement, but I don't think we're going to play it because Mr. D just doesn't know/like the song, and anything he doesn't know is obviously of little to know value.

Districts coming up. Ready to kick some ass. I'd very much like to go back to All-State this year... playin' with those guys was like nothing else.

My Uncle Kevin is coming this weekend. He's a character in the book I'm writing. Very interesting guy, with a daughter who goes to Harvard... So he, me, and dad are going to the Harvard vs. Penn football game this saturday. Meaning they're going to hang out with my cousin in the Harvard Band section and I'm going to the Penn section to hang out with... yeah, you get the picture. Should be a pretty good game of football. Hope I don't miss Notre Dame because of it though. The Irish need my suppport, else they shall lose. Then again, they play Navy, so it ought to be a blow-out.

Aright, thats enough for now.

take care, all.
